Looking after each other is at the heart of the Christian message. Often that happens naturally when one person finds out that their friend needs a bit of extra support. But in a busy parish it’s also good to have a system in place to make sure all the bases are covered. We call this system ‘pastoral care’.
St Timothy’s Church manages pastoral care mainly through existing small groups, whose members care for each other practically, in times of illness or emergency. We have a small team of others who assist when groups require extra help, or when there is a need outside a recognised group.
We are able to offer a range of short term help such as cooking, gardening or driving, but also keep up long term visiting of the elderly or unwell, and driving those who need regular transport to services.
St James’ Church is a smaller congregation and so things work slightly differently. Michael Lawrence is the Primary Pastor for St James’ and is assisted by other members of the congregation when someone is in need.
